Staying healthy is harder than most people think. After all, most of the food items and products that are readily available in places like supermarkets and grocery stores are not exactly bent and focused on promoting wellness. This is also true if you are following strict diet rules and laws like halal or kosher. NutriGuide is an app that’s designed to address these problems by serving as your titular guide to true wellness.
Most food packages and boxes have a barcode that the app’s scanner can use to reveal information that you can’t get from the standard Nutritional Facts table. You can either scan the barcode using the app’s built-in scanner or opt to type the code manually on ‘Search Barcode’ in order to view the most up-to-date and accurate nutritional information of the product that you chose.
Just by clicking on ‘Settings’ alone, you will immediately gain a clear overview on how the app intends to guide you to your nutritional goals. For instance, you can set and edit your profile, which contains important data like age, gender, height, and weight, any time. The app would use this information to inform you whether you are meeting your goals or not.
You can get a more detailed view of your progress in the ‘Personalize’ tab. In the said tab, you will be provided with fundamental information regarding your daily calories, current BMI, as well as carbohydrate, protein, and fat intake (represented in grams and their distribution is depicted in percentages). If you have a limit on your fat intake, which can be set on the ‘Goals’ tab, the app will promptly remind you if you are already going over it once you eat the food item that you scanned.
NutriGuide also supports various healthy diet setups like vegetarian, kosher, or halal, to name a few. You need only to choose the one that you prefer and the app would “guide” you with your food choices that correspond to the setup you selected. If you chose vegetarian, the app would immediately warn you if the product that you scanned has traces of meat, making it possible for you to cross it out immediately. The comprehensive database of food items (mostly in North America) that it has would serve as your sole reference for dietary choices.
The app also has an Allergy section. In it, you would be able to toggle on or off most of the substances and ingredients you are allergic to and the app would do the rest in reminding you of it every time you analyze a specific food item. Other features include Reminders, where you can set important nutritional reminders for yourself, and Browse Food, where most of the data of the food items that you scanned are stored. The app may also add their own data in it with future updates.
There has been an influx of such apps as NutriGuide that lets you scan food and reveal their nutritional value. However, the defining aspect of the said app is its proactive approach in reminding you of your health goals. Not a lot of apps can boast of such active intervention and, without a doubt, this is what most people who lack the discipline to stick to their goals direly need.
Incidentally, the app is available in both Apple App Store and the Google Play so you can expect it to be compatible with any mobile device that you might be using presently, be it an iOS or Android. This leaves you no excuse whatsoever to start being extra mindful of your health as well as the food that you take in.
