Coeur d’Alene, Idaho – DEVONtechnologies enhances its mobile document and information manager DEVONthink To Go with passcode, Face ID, and Touch ID protection. The update also extends the app’s automation options with new URL commands and lets users find documents better with Spotlight. Version 2.5 improves Bonjour sync reliability, too, and fixes issues related to the Files app. The update is free and recommended for all users.

DEVONthink To Go is DEVONtechnologies’ document and information management solution for iOS. Serving as repository for a large variety of data types it lets users keep their important documents with them at all times. It offers a rich set of organizing features as well as built-in viewers and editors for many file formats. Document provider and file provider extensions make documents available in other apps, and an encrypted synchronization keeps all data in sync with other iOS devices as well as with its Mac counterpart, DEVONthink, without compromizing the user’s privacy.

Use DEVONthink To Go to put all your text files, PDFs, notes, images, and bookmarks into your pocket and have them at hand even when you are not connected to your office network or the internet.

What’s new in DEVONthink To Go 2.5: Version 2.5 protects the data stored in its databases not only by encrypting all files but also with an app-wide passcode. Additionally, Touch ID or Face ID can be used for unlocking the app. When putting DEVONthink To Go into the background it stays unlocked for a time period set by the user. This keeps prying eyes away but doesn’t interrupt the user unnecessarily.

Our users are very privacy-sensitive. We support this by using the system’s file-level encryption on iOS and AES-256 for everything our synchronization stores on file servers or services. But even though iOS devices are already protected by default it happens frequently that we hand over our devices to friends or colleagues. The additional security options keep DEVONthink To Go databases secure even when the device is unlocked,” comments Eric Bohnisch-Volkmann, President of DEVONtechnologies.

Users automating their workflows, e.g. with Apple’s Workflow app, receive three new URL commands for listing group contents, updating existing items, and appending new data to text documents. URL commands are currently becoming the de-facto standard for automation on iOS, and DEVONthink To Go fully embraces them with an extending set of options.

Further enhancements include better Spotlight support. Spotlight now receives up to 16 KB of text content per document so that users more easily find items in DEVONthink To Go from anywhere on their devices. The update also brings more reliable synchronization on the local network and increased compatibility with some WebDAV servers, especially macOS Server. Finally, version 2.5 improves the CPU and battery usage and fixes issues, e.g., related to the Files app integration.
