Rochester, New York – RoGame Software today is proud to announce the release of ScaleMaster Pro 1.0 for iOS. Scales are elementary to all musicianship. They provide flavor and harmonic structure, but are at the same time fairly complex. ScaleMaster Pro is designed to help in several key areas concerning scales. It lists over 200 scale types in all keys and shows them in music notation. Scales are listed by name in a master list that also contains additional information like type. The notation display is automatically updated with each new selection. Light text coloring as well as the scale type indicator help easily distinguishing between different types.
Any app running on devices as large as the iPad Pro and as small as the iPhone 4S needed to take extraordinary steps to presenting its content in a useful manner. What complicates matters for music notation or instrument representation is the fact that all of these devices default to a portrait orientation. For the iPad ScaleMaster Pro introduces the concept of a horizontally centered tool strip which is fantastic for uninhibited instrument access at the bottom of the screen. At the same time it provides a centralized location for all tools, secondary windows and leaves clear view of the music notation display. ScaleMaster Pro also supports Split View on all newer iPad models like the iPad Pro. For iPhones ScaleMaster Pro supports a total of 3 layout configurations, a combination view in portrait mode and interchangeable notation or instrument views in landscape mode. These layout options are great for quick reference and for practicing.
For improvising musicians the relationship between chords and scales is of major importance. This is an area where ScaleMaster Pro can be of great assistance to freshen up one’s vocabulary and maybe introduce a couple of more colorful and less common scale choices. The main tool for this is chord matching. ScaleMaster lists over 40 of the most common chord forms which can be selected to filter out scales that don’t match all chord tones. The resulting list of available scales for a particular chord can then be compared and played to get an idea of their overall flavor.
ScaleMaster Pro natively supports 9 different instruments which are implemented as interactive, virtual instruments. All instruments can be shifted into different positions and are a lot of fun just to play around with. They are realized in fantastic detail with position markers, fret indicators, octave indicators on the piano instrument and discreet note name overlays to indicate fingering options and note locations. The piano instrument features a full set of 88 keys and all string instruments have 24 frets. There are several options to position necks or keyboard and note highlighting is done in a very understated manner. Instruments can be played by touch or via a class compliant MIDI controller. ScaleMaster Pro includes 128 sounds to chose from and supports virtual MIDI for chaining external synth modules.
In addition to being a marvelous reference ScaleMaster Pro focusses on practicing. Any scale and instrument configuration can be saved in a document and shared. Like an Ab Pentatonic major scale for guitar in fifth position for example. ScaleMaster Pro also has a recording feature that works similarly to a step sequencer. Once a new recording has been initiated one can enter new notes step by step by touching keys or strings on the instrument. When finished this recording can be played back with count-in and even speed adjusted. During playback the notes entered will be highlighted and sounded out through ScaleMaster’s sound engine. An auto-reverse option is also available and makes the exercise recording feature even more versatile, because most of the time when scales are practiced they are played ascending and descending or the other way around.
